See the full 2025 shortlist →We went during our daughters spring break, wanting to have a good simple getaway. Chris's tour was our first experience of the trip and was absolutely fantastic. The car was so clean, he kept plenty of refreshments, and he was so knowledgeable. He spoke about everything from the city, the geography, the history of the reservations, the tribes. He was very friendly and made the hours long drive very engaging. He also took us for a really nice lunch at a local Mexican restaurant. The Secret Antelope tour was a phenomenal experience as well. With a very small group of people, we had a great time exploring the passage and being able to spend as much time as we wanted with photos and taking in the sights. On the drive back, he was courteous enough to offer to keep the silence so we could sleep if we wanted to. Overall, it was a really great experience and we definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a well-aware and fun tour guide. Thanks a lot Chris!
Our family has a fantastic day on the private tour with Chris. He had water, Gatorade and snacks. He was very informative and took us to some amazing spots where he captured photos of our family! His knowledge of the area and the history was something we appreciated. Lunch at El Tovar was delicious and we even got to see a piece of culture with a performance of the Hoop Dance outside. Truly a bucket list and memorable day for our family!
My experience was fantastic. Chris was very knowledgeable and treated us very well. Took us to the best lookouts at the canyon and best spots for pictures. Booked us a great lunch. Took us to Williams out of his way so we could see the town. We appreciated very much. Was very kind of him. You cant go wrong with his tour.
Nina was our tour guide and she was amazing!! Incredibly knowledgeable and accommodating. Made the 2 hour trip from Sedona to the Grand Canyon entertaining with historical stories and facts about the area we were located in. I would 1000% do another tour with this company and Nina!
We had such a wonderful day with Chris and Grand Canyon Journeys! We had a lovely lunch at El Tovar, sandwiched in between views of the most beautiful outlooks and walks of the rim. We were mostly able to avoid large crowds because Chris knows all the right places to go. We learned a lot, saw a lot, and felt well taken care of.
We all agreed that this was the highlight of our 7 day vacation! Spending the day with Nina, learning about and touring the Grand Canyon was wonderful! She was an absolute joy to be with and so very knowledgeable. She made us all feel welcome!! Highly recommend!
Chris & Nina!!! What an incredible experience!!! I dont think there are two more informed guides in Arizona. They were kind, knowledgeable, and hilarious! They were so prepared for the cold weather we had. They brought snacks, water, gator necks, hand warmers, and more!! Ask Nina for some pics of your group, and I promise you will leave with photos you will cherish for life! 10/10 recommend these two!!
Chris and Nina were fantastic! We had a family of 10. 6 adults, 3 tweens and a toddler. They picked us up in Sedona and drove us up in a very comfortable tour van that accommodated us all perfectly. Chris was very accommodating as the weather on our original scheduled date was rainy and foggy. We got lucky and he was able to swap our date. Nina was our guide that day and was very knowledgeable of the area. The family holiday vacation was topped off and made perfect by this tour to the Grand Canyon! Thank you, Chris and Nina for introducing our young teenagers to this beautiful National treasure and doing what you do! Highly recommend!

We had an absolutely fantastic experience with Grand Canyon Journeys on our day trip from Sedona to the Grand Canyon. Our family of five couldnt have asked for a better guide & experience. Chris was exceptional—warm, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable. He shared fascinating information throughout the day and did a wonderful job keeping both adults and kids interested. The van was thoughtfully stocked with snacks, drinks, and binoculars, which made the day comfortable and easy. Chris was also very attentive to our familys needs, planning stops along the way so we could stretch our legs, move around, and enjoy the journey just as much as the destination. Everything felt personalized and unhurried. Truly an A+ experience from start to finish. We would highly recommend this tour to families or anyone looking for a private, well-run, and memorable Grand Canyon experience.
First, if youve always wanted to do a trip to the Grand Canyon, do it! Second, if youve made the decision to do it, hire a local guide because it will be the difference between "awww, that is cool" - next; to "Wow, I never knew that" and taking the trip to another level. Chris and Nina have been sharing their insight and experience of touring the Grand Canyon for 20+ years. Nina was our guide and she made the trip incredible sharing stories about the canyon, history, people, climate, geology.... Nina is also a very good photographer so it was a bonus for us amateur photographers capturing the awe-inspiring landscape. Our trip would not have been as deep and meaningful without Nina as our guide. If we had to plan the trip again, Wed use Grand Canyon Journeys with Chris and Nina without hesitation.
This was an excellent tour for a first timer! Chris was very knowledgeable and had a well planned approach to ensure we experienced the best of the canyon in one day. He also went above and beyond by securing one of the best tables at the restaurant for our lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Grand Canyon and got so much more out of our visit by having an awesome tour guide (and photographer). Very reasonable price for a private tour.
Chris was beyond amazing. He was so attentive, knowledgeable, flexible. He had plenty snacks that he encouraged us to take. He knew all the hidden pathways to take. His car was clean and professional. Would recommend him over and over again!
My 3 sisters and I had an amazing experience with Grand Canyon Journeys. We were fortunate to spend the day with Nina and our first experience at the Grand Canyon. Our adventure was brought to life by Nina and her story telling throughout our guided tour. Her knowledge of Navajo & Hopi Nations, along with the history of the Grand Canyon and its exploration made the day come alive. We can't speak enough of how allowing Nina taking the wheel reduced our stress and heightened our enjoyment of the day. She also photographed us which added to an incredibly memorable day.
We had a great day in the Grand Canyon with Jon! We are so glad we made the trip! He made the hike fun and less intimidating! The lunch was a nice touch, and we really enjoyed the historic atmosphere. We also enjoyed our conversations during the van ride up and back from Sedona! It went by quickly! Highly recommend!
Our time in Sedona was absolutely unforgettable thanks to Nina and Chris! The stargazing tour with Nina was truly out of this world. Her knowledge of the night sky is incredible - she made constellations, planets, and distant galaxies come alive with stories, science, and pure passion. You can tell she genuinely loves what she does, and that energy makes the entire experience magical. Seeing the Sedona sky through her guidance was something we'll never forget. Our Grand Canyon tour with Chris was just as spectacular. He is extremely knowledgeable, engaging, and thoughtful in how he shares the history, geology, and hidden details of the canyon. He made the day seamless, fun, and deeply enriching. We didn't just "see" the Grand Canyon - we truly understood and experienced it. We're leaving Sedona after two extraordinary tours feeling inspired, grateful, and already wanting to come back. If you're considering booking with them - do it. Five stars isn't enough!
Nina is amazing. We had no idea what to see or where to go. She was right on time to pick us up. She knew we wanted to see in the chapel in rocks. She took us there first. She is very knowledgeable. She remembered our names from introduction which made the day so personal. She gave us plenty of time to explore the places she took us to, took pictures for us. She offered water, Gatorade and snacks. The van was very clean. Her driving was safe, very aware of my friend who gets motion sickness! I simply would not do Sedona any other way or with anyone else. Absolutely amazing private tour with Chris for our 30th anniversary and first trip to Grand Canyon. Chris was a fantastic tour guide (great picture taker too) - very knowledgeable about the area, geology, history and provided tons of information throughout the tour. The lunch at El Tovar was excellent with a window table - all reserved by Chris for us. If you consider any tour - pick Grand Canyon Journeys. They are locally owned and operated and are so incredibly knowledgeable about the area, it made the rest of our time in Sedona memorable (ask Chris for the best sunset/dinner spot - it was stunning and food was delicious!)
We just had the most fantastic day with Chris from Grand Canyon Journeys doing the Five National Monuments tour. Chris was engaging, knowledgeable and fun. He peppered us with information about this amazing part of the world, its history and about the indigenous nations from the area. Highlights included seeing Montezuma's Castle, Tuzigoot National Monuments and the Bonito Lava Field. The tour definitely exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended.
We had the best experience! Nina was our guide, she was incredible with her knowledge and taught us so many things! Our trip included us getting picked up from our Airbnb and lunch too! We hiked the South Kaibab and it was so cool. We had some of the strongest winds. Nina said strongest winds she has seen in a long long time. She made sure we were safe the entire trip. It included plenty of stops up and down and wonderful photos! I can not recommend them enough!
Chris was an amazing guide/host! He took care of every detail! This was our first trip to the Grand Canyon and it did not disappoint! Not only did we see the beauty of the Grand Canyon Chris explained the history and geology of the area. He took care of every detail regarding lunch and our entire day. He planned the trip to perfection and made our first trip memorable!
We had a fantastic time on the Grand Canyon Day Tour. Nina was a fantastic tour guide. She somehow made one of the busiest days of the year at the Grand Canyon feel intimate. Her knowledge of not only the Grand Canyon, but Flagstaff and Sedona, was second to none. Lunch at El Tavor was outstanding. Vehicle was immaculate, spacious, and comfortable. Without hesitation would recommend this tour to anyone looking for a more private, intimate experience away from the crowds. Money well spent.
